The charts below show how the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Bài mẫu:

The line graphs display how the household ownership of various electrical appliances and time spent per week doing housework in a country changed from 1920 and 2019.

Looking at the first graph, it is clear that the proportion of households possessing these devices increased over time, with every family having both refrigerators and vacuum cleaners by 2019. The most significant change overall was witnessed between 1920 and 1960; whereas the proportion of households with fridges rose markedly from almost none to 90%, those of households with washers and households with vacuums increased more modestly, both reaching 70% in 1960. Afterward, ownership of fridges reached 100% in 1980, and in 2000, ownership of washing machines followed. Ownership of vacuum cleaners slightly dipped to about 65% in 1980 before recovering and reaching its peak of 75% in 2019.

Contrasting the trend of electrical appliance possession, the amount of time that people spent doing housework shrank throughout the period. The first 60 years saw the most notable decline, from 50 hours per week in 1920 to 15 hours in 1980. Then, following another 20-year period of stability, the number of weekly housework hours fell further to its lowest point of about 10 in 2019.

Đề bài:

In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in.

What are the reasons for this? How can people research this?

Bài mẫu:

History can be interesting, even when it is not related to a known figure or famous location. In some countries, there is an increasing number of people who are interested in exploring the origins of their accommodation. This is an intriguing phenomenon that will be examined in this essay, by attempting to find reasons behind it and providing some recommendations.

The reasons that this phenomenon can be ascribed to are various. Initially, it can be suggested that when owning a property, people would be interested in discovering anything they can about their dwelling’s history, since knowing more might give them a sense of belonging. Furthermore, if the house or building in question had once belonged to a known local figure, the new owner may start developing an emotional attachment to the dwelling. Also, it is completely natural for people to be curious; some people just want to have good stories that they can tell to their friends and families.

There can be also several ways to research the history of one’s accommodation. First of all, if someone has bought a house through a real estate agent, it might be a good idea to ask the agent about the previous owners and start from there. If there are no realtors available, there is a good alternative in asking people in the neighborhood, as long-time residents tend to be well-versed about the local area’s origins. In addition, visiting the local library may also yield useful information provided there is one in the area.

In conclusion, being curious about the history of the house or building that one lives in is completely natural, and the easiest way to do so is to seek information from real estate agents, neighbors, and the local council.

Đề bài:

The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Bài mẫu:

The diagram gives insight into how sugar is made from sugar cane. Evidently, this is a lengthy process, beginning with the cultivation of sugar canes and concluding with the end product being produced.

Initially, sugar canes are grown on fields for anywhere between 12 and 18 months, until they are ready to be harvested, either by hand or by the harvester. Then, they proceed to be squeezed into a crushing machine to produce sugar cane juice, which is led into a limestone filter in turn. The step of running sugar cane juice through a limestone filter ensures that the juice is purified and that any residue is left behind.

Following filtration, the juice is heated inside an evaporator to condense it into a syrupy substance. Once evaporation is complete, the separation of sugar crystals from the syrup will take place as the liquid is spun in a centrifuge. The result of this step, sugar crystals, is dried and cooled to await future possible steps.

Đề bài:

In their advertising, businesses nowadays usually emphasize that their products are new in some way.

Why is this? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Bài mẫu:

Innovation is a driving force in business. As a matter of fact, if we pay attention to advertising, sooner or later we will notice that businesses tend to heavily emphasize the novelty of their products. There are several clear reasons for this, and in my opinion, this is generally a positive development.

That businesses stress the state of being new while marketing their products is highly related to the need for recognition. Primarily, they would like to be seen by customers as innovators because customers almost always prefer novelty and progress. In highly dynamic industries such as the automobile or smartphone industry, there are certain product lines with new models launched every year; even if certain features on the new models are not necessarily better, customers would still line up to purchase. In addition, advertising novelty is also a major point for attracting investors – being able to find uncharted demands on the market and fulfill them is the fastest way to profit, and this is extremely important for start-ups that need funding.

All things considered, this is a helpful development. Firstly, because the products do have to be innovative in some way to be advertised as such, innovation as a driving force in business will be strengthened. Entrepreneurs will be encouraged to strive for newer breakthroughs, and ingenious ideas will be rewarded. Secondly, this development will also remind businesses of the need to constantly improve themselves to stay ahead of their competitors. With competition rife in the market, consumers will stand to benefit in a multitude of ways.

In conclusion, the emphasis on innovation in products in business advertising is positive, as far as I am concerned.
