Answer the question:
– What’s the most popular type of accommodation? → majority of traveller stayed with their family and friends
– Comment on the trend:
– Increasing trend: rented apartments, hotel
– Decreasing trend: camping, staying with family and friends
Model answer:
The pie charts illustrate the ratio of four types of accommodation that people used during their holiday over three decades starting from 1988. Overall, people gradually became more hesitant to stay in campsites or in family and friends’ houses, yet the latter choice was still the preferable one. Another noticeable trend is that service apartments and hotels witnessed a growth in popularity over the given period.
In 1988, about half of the vacationers chose to stay temporarily in houses of families and friends, making it the number one choice. Even though in the next two decades, people became more reluctant to stay over at their friends and loved one’s houses than before, 44% of visitors still opted for this form of accommodation. Similarly, close to a third of travelers selected to spend their holidays at campsites at the beginning of 1988 but by 2008, only 12% of holidaymakers did.
Rented apartments were not a common choice for many tourists, accounting for a negligible 7%. A decade later, the percentage increased by 4%, and it finally reached 22% in 2008, becoming the second popular place of residence. Likewise, hotels’ statistics underwent a slight growth from 15% to 22% in the first ten years of the period; however, in 2008, the proportion of visitors who selected this type of accommodation remained the same from 1998.
