I. Linking words là gì?

Linking words là những từ nối được dùng để nối các vế câu, hai mệnh đề hoặc các câu trình bày sự tương phản, điều kiện, so sánh, mục đích, giả định,…

Những từ liên kết hay từ nối này sử dụng để liên kết ý tưởng. Chúng ta có thể dùng linking words trong IELTS writing để đưa ra ví dụ, đưa ra lý do kết quả, thêm thông tin, tóm tắt, đưa trình tự thông tin sao cho logic,…Từ nối có thể đứng ở đầu câu, ở giữa câu hoặc giữa hai dấu phẩy tùy vào ngữ cảnh.

II. Các dạng Linking Words trong IELTS Writing thông dụng 

Sau đây sẽ là 13 dạng Linking words bạn thường xuyên bắt gặp trong tiếng anh:

– Comparison: Dùng để so sánh

– Sequencing ideas: Dùng để sắp xếp ý tưởng

– Generalisation: Thể hiện khái quát hóa

– Restatement: Nhắc khía cạnh khác

– Summary: Dùng để tóm tắt

– Condition: Thể hiện điều kiện

– Result: Dùng để chỉ kết quả

– Emphasis: Dùng để nhấn mạnh

– Addition: Dùng để bổ sung

– Reason: Dùng để chỉ lý do

– Transition Words – Illustration: Dùng để minh họa

– Contrast: Dùng để thể hiện sự tương phản

– Concession: Nhượng bộ

III. Một số Linking words quan trọng trong tiếng anh 

1. Linking Words – Comparison (So sánh)

Sau đây sẽ là các từ nối dùng trong câu so sánh tương tự từ hai đối tượng trở lên:

In the same way	Theo cùng một cách	In the same way, the materials are compressed before packaging.

Similar to	Tương tự như	Similar to the first method, this technique also requires drying the material.
Same as	Giống như	The blending step is the same as in the previous process.
Equally	Bằng nhau	Both machines operate equally efficiently under the same conditions.
Compare/Compared to	So sánh / So sánh với	Compared to the manual process, the automated one saves more time.
Likewise	Tương tự như vậy	The clay is dried under the sun; likewise, the sand is left to settle naturally.
Just as	Cũng như	Just as the bricks are baked in a kiln, the tiles undergo the same process.
Like/Just like	Giống như	Like the first diagram, this one begins with collecting raw materials.
As… as…	… như ai/cái gì	The second stage is as important as the first in determining quality.

2. Linking Words – Result (Kết quả)

Đây là dạng từ nối dùng để nêu kết quả cho quá trình, hành động…một sự việc được nhắc đến trước nó.

As a result	Kết quả là	The temperature rises rapidly; as a result, the mixture begins to expand.
As a consequence (of)	Như một hệ quả của	As a consequence of the high pressure, the valve automatically opens.
Thereby	Do đó	The waste is filtered, thereby reducing environmental pollution.
Therefore	Vì thế	The raw materials are not available; therefore, the process is delayed.
Thus	Như vậy	The machine overheats; thus, it shuts down automatically.
Eventually	Cuối cùng	The substance cools and eventually solidifies.
Consequently	Hậu quả là	The system failed to regulate heat; consequently, the components melted.
Hence	Vì thế	The mixture was too thick; hence, it was diluted with water.
For this reason	Vì lý do này	The materials are fragile; for this reason, they are handled manually.

3. Connecting Words – Addition (Bổ sung)

Đây là dạng từ nối dùng để bổ sung ý được nhắc đến trước đó, cụ thể:

Along with	Cùng với	Along with recycling, the company uses biodegradable materials.
Besides	Ngoài ra	Besides saving energy, the system also reduces emissions.
In addition	Ngoài ra	In addition, the workers receive regular safety training.
Moreover	Hơn thế nữa	The process is simple. Moreover, it’s environmentally friendly.
Not only…but also	Không những… mà còn	Not only is the method faster, but it also uses fewer resources.
In addition to this	Thêm vào đó	In addition to this, new procedures were introduced to enhance accuracy.
Apart from this	Ngoài việc này	Apart from this, the factory has implemented green technologies.

4. Linking Words – Emphasis (Khẳng định)

Được dùng để bổ nghĩa nhấn mạnh, khẳng định lại các mệnh đề trong câu cụ thể:

5. Linking Words – Contrast

Được dùng để chỉ sự tương phản, đối lập, so sánh sự khác nhau, khía cạnh khác đối lập với mệnh đề hoặc ý được nhắc đến trước đó.

6. Linking Words – Reason (Lý do)

Được dùng để nối vào những mệnh đề chỉ nguyên nhân, cung cấp lý do cho một sự việc nào đó.

7. Transition Words – Give Examples (Dẫn chứng)

Được dùng khi muốn đưa ra dẫn chứng, các ví dụ minh họa.

8. Linking Words – Sequencing ideas

Được dùng để đánh dấu, sắp xếp thứ tự của các ý tưởng trong câu.
