1. Do you often visit a museum?
This question makes me feel a bit guilty. I have to state very clearly that I love museums, and I think the word “love” is not enough to describe how I feel about museums. But I am not exactly a frequent visitor of museums. This is because of my limited time, spare time, to be exact, since I am still a student and I don’t really have lots of leisure time to go out. But it’s also due to the fact that I’m not friends with anyone who likes museums as much as I do. So they’re not really my go-to places when I hang out with my friends, since you know, you have to also care about your friends’ interest and personal feelings when you ask them to go out with you.

2. When was the last time you visited a museum?
The closest time that I could remember was in 2018. It was a trip to Saigon on Tet holiday that I had with my friend and we decided to go to Vietnam Arts museum during the weekend in HCM City. It was a museum that shows all of the works of art of Vietnamese artists throughout history, and I had a really fun time there looking at different paintings and sculptures. Really fond memories have been made in that place.

3. Are there many museums in your country?
Oh, definitely. While I don’t have the exact total number of museums in Vietnam, I wholeheartedly believe that in any city that you visit, no matter if it’s in the southern, or northern or central areas of Vietnam, you would find at least one or two museums around the corner. The museums range in sizes, range in location and also the content and the theme of the museums. Like, we have museums for war, museums for minor ethnicities, museums of specific fields, such as arts, like I mentioned, and museums in order to honor certain groups of people in the society, such as the Women Museum.

4. Do you think museums are important?
My answer may be biased, but yes. A big, huge, giant yes. Besides the fact that I am someone who really likes to go to places of culture like museums, I think that from the most objective viewpoint that I can have, museums have done 2 jobs really, really well. One of them is keeping the memory flames alive. In a country that has been through lots of different types of war like Vietnam, museums or in this case specifically, war museums have kept the memories of like, a once-in-a-lifetime war like the Vietnam war with French and American colonies, very present and very vivid for not only the people who have been through the war, but also for the new generations who have never experienced it before. And the second thing that I believe the museums play a huge role in is reminding people of who or what aspect in life is important and needs to be treasured. This is really showcased in the Women’s Museum and the Arts Museum. The Women’s Museum is a reminder that yeah, women are beautiful, women are powerful and they deserve the respect, the love and equal treatment from every single person in our society. And the Arts Museum stands as a way to tell people that art is really important in building the culture, the “Vietnamese spice” that we know of right now and they need to be cared about by not only the people but also the government. And I think that the museum has done really well in doing its role, fulfilling its task as something that tells people of what is important and what should be remembered.
