The table compares how much a cup of coffee in six Australian cities costed and the percentage change in its price between 2010 and 2014. Overall, after four years, the price of coffee increased in all cities but Brisbane, in which it remained unchanged. Among the price hikes, Melbourne saw the biggest jump, while Canberra experienced the least. Sydney remained the city where coffee was most expensive in both years.
The price of a cup of coffee in Sydney and Melbourne had risen significantly over the last four years. In fact, this beverage cost 2.8 dollars in Sydney in 2010, which was the highest among all cities and it saw a 13.2 percent rise in selling price four years later. Similarly, Melbourne, which ranked second highest in both years for coffee prices, saw the most significant change of 20.8 percent, or 50 cents, from 2.4 dollars at the start of the year.
With the exception of Brisbane, the remaining cities saw a slight variation in the selling price of coffee. Perth’s pricing increased by 7.1 percent from 2010, somewhat more than Adelaide’s increase. In 2014, residents in Perth paid $2.25 per coffee drink, whereas those in Adelaide paid $0.25 less. Canberra was the cheapest spot to get coffee on the list during the same time period, with a charge of only 1.6 dollars and a $1 higher later. Brisbane was the only city where the price of a cup of coffee remained unchanged, at $2.25.
