I am now working for a young company and there is almost no regulation on how employees should wear in the workplace, but this particular question reminds me of my high school time back in 2010. At that time, my family was still living in Korea and so I went to high school there. Students at my school were required to wear formal uniform during all weekdays. I gotta admit that our uniforms were just as beautiful as what shown in K-dramas on television, so, to some extent, wearing them 5 days per week was not completely unpleasant for a self-proclaimed fashionista like me. We have different versions for the 2 main seasons of the year. In the summer, our school attire would be white long-sleeve blouses with the school’s logo embroidered on the chest pocket, grey checked dresses for girls, and trousers for boys. There would be 2 additional items in the winter – a grey sweatshirt and a plain blazer also in the same color with the logo patch ironed on the left chest area. Black shoes of any kind were recommended to wear with the uniform. I and a few others found it a little boring, so we put some personal spin on by changing the collar, adding a tie or some accessories like wristwatches, necklaces,… but must not be in bright colors. Aside from that, our school was pretty strict, pupils disobeying the uniform rules could be sent home right away.
Unlike many people, I do not consider uniform as a thing of the past, but, in the contrary, a part of the school decorum that helps to maintain discipline. Also, uniform provides equality for everyone, therefore eliminating the discrimination among students.
