There was a time when I had to borrow something from my friend that I could never forget. Last summer I applied for a Bachelor’s degree scholarship for International Students in the US. It is my dream to study abroad, but my family’s financial condition couldn’t afford to pay for all the tuition fees, so this scholarship was my only chance. After a month of hard-working on a teamwork project with several other applicants, I got into the Top 15 and was required to give a presentation about a topic related to our project. I was extremely excited to see all my efforts had finally started to pay off and just got right into the work since there was not much time left.
Fast-forward to the presentation day, when I was pacing up and down at the backstage like a cat on hot bricks waiting for my turn, I decided to do one more final check to make sure that everything was alright. But all of a sudden, I was freaked out to find my laptop collapsed and the screen was just all black. I tried to stay calm, plugged in the laptop and restart it, hoping for a miracle. Yet, after 5 minutes trying in vain, I had to run around asking for help, and luckily a boy named Dan, who had just finished his presentation, let me borrow his laptop. Thanks to his generosity, I was still able to finish my presentation, though it was not the best due to that technical malfunction. The moment had finally come when both I and Dan were announced to get the scholarships. My mind was on cloud nine and I just can’t help but burst into tears of joy. Dan was truly my lifesaver that day so I asked him out for dinner later to show my gratefulness. We had an amazing experience together through the process and have become good friends afterward.
